Tourism: Renowned Spanish firm to open hotel in Cuba
Starting November 15 the Barcel? firm will inaugurate a 525-room installation at Matanzas? Varadero beach resort, Juan Antonio Montes, general director of the Grubarges investment group, announced in the Cuban capital.
Barcelós general director in Cuba also expressed that his company
is a large Spanish hotel chain that arrived in the largest of the Caribbean
islands through the Spanish Grubarges group, to which it belongs, together with
several Spanish firms.
With a view to the upcoming opening in Varadero of a hotel, Grubarges and the
local Gran Caribe company recently signed a management contract for the new
five-star establishment that will be named Solymar-Barceló and will work
under the all-inclusive system.
Juan Antonio Montes announced in Havana that his company already has a joint
association, called Lima, with the Cubanacán corporate group for the
development of two hotels, one at Cayo Coco and another at Holguíns
Guardalavaca beach.
Regarding the contract signed with Gran Caribe for the tourist installation
at Varadero, he said that this is the beginning of the relationship, which they
also aim to negotiate with the Gaviota S.A. group to reach more than 5,000 rooms
in Cuba by the end of five years.
The Spanish executive affirmed that if the plans come through, Grubarges will
become the second foreign hotel company with the largest presence in Cuba after
Sol Meliá, also from Spain.
Gran Caribe, Cubas most important hotel chain, owns the Hotel Nacional
de Cuba, tourisms flagship installation in the largest of the Caribbean
islands.
